On the first of december，we listened to a speech about the gardens.Mr Zhao gave us that speech.He is a professor of the arts about gardens in Nanjing university.This speech helped us to know how to enjoy the beauty of gardens a lot.
The speech was mainly about the Suzhou traditional garden.First, he told us what a garden is. A garden is a place with vegetation,rocks,waters and buildings that can be used to have a rest.The oldest style of Chinese traditional gardens are the parks with small animals and the parks with constructs.The four main kinds of it is royal gardens,personal gardens,temple gardens and attractive gardens.Then he talked about how is Suzhou traditional garden like.People call it 'old forest in city', 'fresh historical culture', 'vivid landscape painting' and 'the special artwork of Suzhou culture'.At last, he told us about the characteristic of Suzhou traditional garden.Sadly, because there was not enough time,he only talked about the first characteristic.That is to use the water and rockerys to make the beauty.Some gardens have big ponds,if they don't have enough space ,they would make the pond narrow and long.That will make it look very large.In addition,the artists put the rocks together naturally and make them like a long canyon.So they can use very small things to represent the atractive lakes,rivers,mountains and gills.These are very helpful for us to enjoy Chinese trditional gardens.
I admire Mr Zhao very much, not only because he knows a lot about Chinese traditional gardens,but also because he put much effort into the speech to us.On the lecture,he said politely and showed respect to our students.I am grateful to him for the knowledge that he imparted.
